Christmas for Kids

Christmas for Kids is a not for profit organization that helps fulfill Christmas wishes for the less fortunate families, especially children, in Paulding and surrounding counties. In the 2004 drive for donations, the Fins of the Flatland Parrot Head Club donated approximately $ 300 in food, money and toys to Paulding County.

In the 2005 campaign of Christmas For Kids, the Fins donated more than $300 in money and toys to Paulding County's children and families. Paulding County donates the most money/toys per capita in the surrounding area to Christmas For Kids! Congratulations Fins members on being one of the organizations in our county to make this happen!! At the conclusion of the 2005 Christmas For Kids toy/money drive, there was in EXCESS of $102,000 raised to support families and children in Paulding and surrounding counties!! Again, a HUGE Fins Up to all who helped in some way to make this possible!!

Adopt-A-Highway

The Fins of the Flatland Adopt A Highway location is a 2 mile stretch near the intersection of U.S. Highway 30 and the Ohio State Route 66 exit. In 2004, the club spent 26 man hours on clean up.

Ottoville Park Carnival

Park Carnival is an annual event held in Ottoville, Ohio on Labor Day weekend. Proceeds from the events held at Park Carnival go toward the maintenance of the Ottoville Community Park. Funds raised also help in purchases such as new equipment and dugouts. In 2004, Fins of the Flatland contributed to the club sponsored 5K Run and to the club sponsored  Battle of the Businesses.

In 2005, Fins of the Flatland again sponsored the Battle of the Businesses. We also entered a float in the parade and ended up winning the Kings Choice Award! Way to go Fins!! Thanks to the talent of a few members of the club, Beth Kelly, Jim Mullen, Karl Erickson and Sandy Dobbelaere who designed and built the float!

Relay For Life of Paulding County

Relay For Life is an annual event that takes place in Paulding County in the Spring to help raise money for the American Cancer Society. In 2004, Paulding County raised over $30,000!  As a small and newly formed PHC, the Fins of the Flatland contributed $ 800! One of the ways we raised money was by selling "Cheeseburgers in Paradise". This turned out to be a pretty good money maker, so it will become one of our annual Relay for Life Fundraisers.

During the 2005 Relay for Life, Fins of the Flatland stepped up and  contributed over $ 2,400!!!  The club was one of the top 5 contributing teams to this years relay! The club spent over 131 manhours working/participating at the event.

At the 2006 Relay For Life, Paulding County raised well above and beyond the goal of $41,000! The community came together to raise well over $54,000!!! The Fins of the Flatland did another excellent job with their contribution of $2,565.00! This earned the club the honor of being a Silver Team/Contibutor! A HUGE FINS UP to all Fins members who contributed in some way to the success of this very worthy cause! Paulding County could not have done it with out you!!

OTHERS

Jay Brown Helping Hand and Heart Fund

In December 2004, Fins of the Flatland made Buckeye Necklaces and donated them to a benefit being held for a local  Paulding Junior High  student named Jay Brown. He had been recently diagnosed with a form of Lymphoma Cancer. The benefit was held to help defray medical costs. The sale of the necklaces raised approximately $50 and the necklaces that were not sold were used as door prizes.

Oakwood Homecoming

In 2005, the Fins of the Flatland volunteered in the Oakwood Homecoming by selling cheeseburgers in the food stand. We also participated in the Labor Day parade by entering a float. The club took second place and received $50. Way to go Fins!
